Ensuing ten years in the fashion industry under various established brands, we identified a gap in the market for premium, locally produced denim. Manufacturing denim was an efficient, industrial-scale operation here in Aotearoa until the mid-90’s, and it now exists through just a handful of people. A jean requires resilient and careful hands, and a humbling level of technical skill across several unique machines for a finish that is equal parts beautiful, high quality and functional. We believe that nurturing back to life this form of manufacturing locally will not only improve our own ability to create locally, but also benefit innumerably both the ethos and pathos of our creative community.

ANNARODEWIJK offers refined classic denim in essential cuts and colours, manufactured without compromise, between Auckland, Christchurch and Melbourne. Our garments are made with certified organic 100% cotton, a classic right-hand twill weave, sourced from Milan-based denim mill Candiani. Each garment is constructed and finished end-to-end within small production cycles, giving us both consistency of quality and transparency of process. Finishing of ANNARODEWIJK garments favours a simple chemical-free rinse rather than intensive traditional denim processes. Our denim garments are finished with hand-pressed Italian hardware and we are pleased to be able to offer worldwide shipping.

We feel a profound sense of gratitude and responsibility towards our peers and way-pavers, and our hope is that we might contribute to our community through engaging, meaningful dialogue and beautifully balanced clothing design.
